Dialysis Adequacy and Dose Index Explanation and Clinical Context Dialysis adequacy is commonly quantified using two complementary measures. The urea reduction ratio is the percent reduction in blood urea concentration during a single hemodialysis session and offers a simple quality control metric. Single pool KtV from the Daugirdas second generation formula provides an estimate of dialysis dose accounting for treatment time and ultrafiltration and is widely used to monitor delivered dose.

Equilibrated KtV or double pool KtV accounts for the post treatment urea rebound and is often estimated from single pool KtV using a correction that depends on treatment duration. Clinicians commonly use both URR and KtV to assess whether delivered dialysis meets target goals for patient safety and outcomes. The formulas implemented in this tool follow standard published methods and are intended for bedside or unit level monitoring.
