Sepsis Mortality Severity Calculator Explanation and Clinical Context This tool provides an estimation of mortality severity in patients presenting with sepsis by integrating several physiologic and biochemical variables that are strongly associated with adverse outcomes. Serum lactate reflects cellular hypoperfusion and metabolic stress. Mean arterial pressure reflects circulatory stability and correlates with the adequacy of organ perfusion.

Creatinine is a marker of renal dysfunction which often occurs early in severe sepsis. Respiratory rate is a sensitive indicator of metabolic acidosis and systemic inflammatory activation. The Glasgow Coma Scale provides a window into cerebral perfusion and neurologic integrity.

Higher combined scores indicate more profound physiological compromise and therefore a greater risk of mortality. This tool does not replace comprehensive clinical judgment but it supports rapid bedside risk stratification that may guide decisions regarding escalation of care, monitoring intensity, and early initiation of advanced therapies.
