It incorporates TSH levels, age, sex, systolic blood pressure, and total cholesterol to calculate a continuous risk index. Higher TSH levels, advanced age, male sex, elevated systolic blood pressure, and higher cholesterol are associated with increased cardiovascular risk.

The resulting risk index can be transformed into an estimated 10-year cardiovascular risk percentage using a logistic function, providing clinicians with an individualized risk assessment for patients with thyroid dysfunction.
