Traditional fluoroscopy exposes both patients and staff to ionizing radiation, which may increase long-term health risks. This index incorporates key patient and procedural factors, including patient age, atrial fibrillation type, number of prior ablation procedures, and left atrial diameter, to generate a composite score.

The score stratifies patients into low, intermediate, and high risk categories, providing an estimation of procedural success probability. It assists electrophysiologists in pre-procedural planning, patient counseling, and allocation of appropriate technologies such as intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and electroanatomical mapping systems.
