DIAL2 Score: Explanation and Clinical Context The DIAL2 (Diabetes Lifespan) model estimates the lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and CVD-free life expectancy in individuals with type 2 diabetes without prior CVD history. Developed using data from the Swedish National Diabetes Register, the model incorporates factors such as age, sex, smoking status, BMI, HbA1c, systolic blood pressure, and LDL cholesterol levels. It has been recalibrated for European low- and moderate-risk regions and externally validated in Scottish and UK populations.

The model assists clinicians in shared decision-making by providing individualized long-term risk assessments, aligning with the 2021 ESC CVD prevention guidelines.
