Bioimpedance Scale Body Fat Explanation and Clinical Context Bioimpedance scales estimate body fat percentage by analyzing the resistance of body tissues to a low level electrical current. Lean tissue contains more water and conducts electricity more easily, whereas fat tissue provides higher resistance. Consumer bioimpedance devices combine anthropometric variables such as height, weight, age, and sex to improve estimation accuracy.

The calculated body fat percentage reflects total adiposity and is commonly used for cardiovascular risk assessment and metabolic health monitoring. Bioimpedance based estimation is convenient and noninvasive, but accuracy may be affected by hydration status, recent physical activity, and meal intake.
