The equation improves accuracy by using a population based reference serum creatinine distribution that reduces bias commonly seen in previous formulas. It is applicable to adult and adolescent patients and provides an estimation that correlates well with measured GFR using exogenous filtration markers.

Normal kidney function generally corresponds to an estimated GFR above ninety mL per min per one point seven three square meters while values below this threshold may indicate early kidney dysfunction or chronic kidney disease depending on the clinical scenario. The EKFC formula helps clinicians interpret renal function more reliably in daily practice which supports medication dosing decisions clinical monitoring and risk stratification.
