Framingham BMI Model: Explanation and Clinical Context The Framingham BMI Model estimates the 10-year risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) using readily available clinical parameters including age, sex, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, smoking status, and BMI. Unlike lipid-based models, BMI is used as a substitute for direct lipid measurements in some versions. The model calculates a logarithmic score based on sex-specific regression coefficients derived from the Framingham Heart Study cohort, which is then converted into an estimated 10-year CVD risk percentage.

This tool aids clinicians in identifying individuals at elevated cardiovascular risk, guiding preventive strategies such as lifestyle modification, pharmacologic therapy, and monitoring.
