HFA-ICOS Dynamic Surveillance Index: Explanation and Clinical Context The HFA-ICOS Dynamic Surveillance Index is a risk stratification tool developed by the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology and the International Cardio-Oncology Society. It is designed to assess the cardiovascular risk in oncology patients prior to initiating potentially cardiotoxic anti-cancer therapies. The index considers various patient-related factors, including age, sex, and the presence of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking, and family history of cardiovascular disease.
Based on these factors, patients are categorized into low, moderate, high, or very high-risk groups, which guides clinicians in tailoring surveillance and management strategies to mitigate the risk of cardiovascular toxicity during cancer treatment. The tool has been validated in multiple studies and is recommended for use in clinical practice to enhance patient safety and optimize therapeutic outcomes.
