Hs-CRP Tertile Stratification: Explanation and Clinical Context High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) is a biomarker of systemic inflammation widely used in cardiovascular risk assessment. Tertile stratification categorizes individuals into three risk groups based on circulating Hs-CRP concentrations: Tertile 1 (<1.0 mg/L) indicates low cardiovascular risk, Tertile 2 (1.0–3.0 mg/L) indicates intermediate risk, and Tertile 3 (>3.0 mg/L) indicates high risk. This stratification is based on large population studies, including the Women's Health Study and the Physicians’ Health Study, and helps clinicians to identify individuals who may benefit from intensified lifestyle interventions or pharmacotherapy for cardiovascular risk reduction.

Hs-CRP is independent of traditional risk factors and can complement established risk scores such as the Framingham Risk Score or ASCVD pooled cohort equations.
