INSPIRE Index (Insulin Sensitivity Prognosis): Explanation and Clinical Context The INSPIRE Index is a prognostic tool used to estimate insulin sensitivity and risk of progression to metabolic and cardiovascular complications. It is calculated using fasting plasma glucose and fasting insulin, based on the HOMA-IR model. A lower INSPIRE Index indicates higher insulin sensitivity and lower cardiometabolic risk, whereas higher values suggest insulin resistance and increased risk for diabetes and cardiovascular events.
Clinicians can use this index for early detection, risk stratification, and individualized lifestyle or pharmacologic interventions to prevent disease progression.
