It is calculated using the formula: MSS (%) = [(Area at Risk - Infarct Size) / Area at Risk] × 100 Where Area at Risk (AAR) represents the myocardium initially jeopardized by ischemia, and Infarct Size (IS) represents the portion that became necrotic. Higher MSS indicates a greater proportion of myocardium preserved, correlating with improved post-operative cardiac function and reduced risk of heart failure.

This score helps clinicians assess the effectiveness of surgical or interventional myocardial reperfusion strategies and provides prognostic insight for patient recovery and long-term outcomes.
