Occupational Sedentary Behaviour Cardiac Risk Score: Explanation and Clinical Context This tool provides an approximate risk stratification for cardiovascular (cardiac) risk based on occupational sedentary behaviour, demographic and lifestyle variables. Prolonged occupational sitting has been identified as a potential modifiable risk exposure for cardiometabolic disease and cardiovascular outcomes: for instance, individuals who predominantly sit at work had a 34% higher risk of cardiovascular‐disease mortality compared with those who did not, even after adjustment for known risk factors. The score integrates age, sex, occupational sitting time, leisure‐time moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and BMI to capture both the exposure to sedentary work and counter‐modifying behaviours.

It should NOT replace validated cardiovascular risk models (such as Framingham, SCORE, ASCVD) but can serve as an adjunct screening tool in occupational health or cardiology preventive contexts. Individuals allocated to the “High risk” category should be considered for further formal cardiovascular risk assessment, lifestyle intervention (reducing sitting time, increasing MVPA), and if appropriate, cardiology referral.
