The model incorporates three key variables: gender (male vs female), DVT location (proximal vs distal), and D-dimer levels measured one month after cessation of anticoagulation. By combining these variables into a linear predictor, clinicians can estimate individualized recurrence risk to guide decisions on duration of anticoagulation therapy.

Higher scores correlate with increased recurrence risk, supporting prolonged anticoagulation in high-risk patients while avoiding overtreatment in low-risk individuals.
