Additive EuroSCORE: Explanation and Clinical Context The Additive European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation (EuroSCORE) is a widely used risk stratification tool to estimate operative mortality for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Each risk factor is assigned a score (1–3 points) based on its impact on operative mortality. The total score is then used to approximate the risk of in-hospital death.

This tool includes patient-related factors (age, gender, comorbidities), cardiac-related factors (LV function, recent MI, unstable angina), and operation-related factors (urgency, complexity of intervention). Clinicians use Additive EuroSCORE for preoperative counseling, risk stratification, and surgical planning. While simple and practical, it tends to overestimate mortality in high-risk patients compared with the logistic EuroSCORE.
